ATMS 412 Physical Oceanography
Credit: 3 or 4 hours.
(ATMOS 311) Examines principles underlying physical and dynamical oceanography, and processes affecting air-sea interaction and climate modeling. Topics include the physics of sea water, water mass characteristics, static stability, diffusion, equations of motion, geostrophic currents, and wind-driven currents, thermohaline circulation, numerical models, waves, tides. 3 undergraduate hours. 4 graduate hours. Prerequisite: MATH 230 and ATMS 401, or consent of instructor.
