Phys and Soc Sci Simulation

Credit: 3 hours.


Section A - Computer Simulation Studies for Physical Scientists: Students learn how to develop computer models to simulate a variety of phenomena that are significant in the physical sciences, such as: solidification, phase ordering, interfacial diffusion, adsorption-desorption, percolation and gelation, excitable media, and fracture. Section B - Computer Simulation Studies for Social Scientists: Students learn how to develop computer models to simulate a variety of phenomena that are significant in the social sciences, such as: the prisoner's dilemma problem and its variants, social norms, cultural transmission, role models, fads and fashions, stock market bubbles and crashes. Same as CSE 472 and ECON 474. Prerequisite: Junior, senior, or graduate standing; or consent of instructor.
