Gender and Women's Studies

Interdisciplinary Minor in Gender and Women's Studies

The Gender and Women's Studies Program sponsors an interdisciplinary minor. Students must satisfy the following requirements:
  • a. Students must officially declare their minor by registering with the Gender and Women's Studies adviser.
  • b. The program of study must be approved by the Gender and Women's Studies Program adviser to ensure its coherence.
  • c. A minimum grade point average of 2.75 is required for completion of the minor.

Hours Requirements
6 Two of the following three Women’s Studies courses:
 
GWS 250–Gender Studies Humanities
 
GWS 260–Gender Studies Soc Sci
 
GWS 350–Intro to Feminist Theory
15 Other courses either offered by or cross-listed with the Gender and Women’s Studies Program, or related courses from other departments approved by the Gender and Women’s Studies adviser, which must include 9 hours of 400-level GWS courses or approved advanced courses from other units.

Teacher Education Minor in Women's Studies

Teacher education minors are available only to students seeking to add additional teaching fields to their teaching majors. This minor does not lead to an endorsement in an additional teaching field.

3 GWS 250–Gender Studies Humanities
3 GWS 260–Gender Studies Soc Sci
3 Course in sex-role socialization
15 Other courses, no more than 6 at the 100 level, either offered by or cross-listed with the Gender and Women’s Studies Program. These courses should form a coherent program, planned in consultation with an adviser in the Gender and Women’s Studies Program, and an adviser in the student’s major. At least four of the elective courses must be from either humanities (in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences or the College of Fine and Applied Arts) or the social sciences and behavioral sciences (in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences or the Department of Economics).
