ANTH 268
Images of the Other

Credit:  3 hours.

This course satisfies the General Education Criteria for a
Advanced Composition, Hist&Philosoph Perspect, and Western Compartv Cult course.

(ANTH 268) Do all peoples view neighboring or distant populations as radically different "Others," or can humans create mutual images based on a notion of shared humanity? Course compares and analyzes the range of images of ethnic, "racial", gender, class and bodily differences that have been enacted historically and cross-culturally in both Western and non-Western populations. Prerequisite: A previous course in history and/or one of the social sciences would be helpful.

Students should register for a lecture and discussion section.
