| 3 hours Discovery course. Introduction to Jewelry/Metal I, 3 hours. This introductory jewelry course focuses on the design and execution of jewelry and related objects through fabrication. Students will investigate surface embellishment, assembly techniques, and finishing processes. Traditional and alternative materials for jewelry will be presented. Students will be introduced to historical and contemporary work of other cultures through slide lectures and readings. Additionally, students will be encouraged to explore jewelry as a medium of personal aesthetic expression. First Year Discovery Program Course. Registration restricted to freshmen. Students should enroll in only one Discovery course. Materials Fees (Discovery) 90.00 dollars. |

This course will provide students with a broad base of theoretical information and practical experience in two- and three-dimensional design. Art and Design universals and contemporary issues will be explored using various art media.
