Topics in Organic Chemistry

Credit:  2 to 4 hours.


Advanced course dealing with a subject not ordinarily covered by regularly scheduled courses, such as natural product synthesis and biosynthesis, organic photochemistry, chemistry of special families of organic compounds, etc. May be repeated. Prerequisite: CHEM 532 and CHEM 534, one of which may be taken concurrently.

MECHANISMS OF ORGANOMETALLIC REACTIONS This is taught the first half of the semester. A survey of the structure, bonding, reactivity, and reaction mechanisms of organometallic complexes of the transition elements. The course will begin with fundamental principles and conclude with catalytic applications of organometallic chemistry.
