Reading & Writing Autobiography, 3 hours. Reading and writing autobiography will offer freshman time to read autobiographies/memoirs of the lives of others (if possible drawing upon the published works of Pioneers in their field) as they begin a new phase of their own lives. This course will offer an opportunity to read, write and learn from the lives of others. First year Discovery Program Course. Registeration restricted to freshman. Students should only enroll in one Discovery course.

Exploring Social Issues Through Children's Literature, 2 hours. This course examines contemporary issues affecting the lives of children and youth as portrayed in current children?s literature. Issues such as child abuse/neglect, violence, body image, teenage pregnancy, substance abuse, and prejudice/ discrimination will be explored through reading, writing, and discussion. Most reading selections are for adolescent/young adult readers because of the nature of the content. First Year Discovery Program Course. Registration restricted to Freshman. Students should only enroll in one Discovery course.
