GEOL 104
Geology of the National Parks

Credit:  3 hours.

This course satisfies the General Education Criteria for a
Physical Sciences course.

Develops geologic background, concepts, and principles through study of selected national parks and monuments. Examines the geologic framework and history, modern geologic processes, and factors influencing the present day landscape for each park area.


Students must register for one lab and one lecture section.

Geology of the National Parks, 3 hours. The rocks and landscapes in our national parks tell remarkable stories for those who take time to listen and understand. Grand Canyon, for instance, has recorded more than 2000 million years of natural history in the making. First Year Discovery Program Course. Registration restricted to freshmen. Students should enroll in only one Discovery course.
