Macroeconomic Principles, 3 hours. This course is an introduction to the principles of macroeconomics: the study of the economy as a whole. Topics include unemployment, inflation, economic growth, the determinants of the nation's output, the banking system, and how the government and central bank influence the economy through monetary and fiscal policy. As part of the theme of globalization, we will place extra special emphasis on international trade and finance. Using the Wall Street Journal and other periodicals, we will relate the course to current economic events. Also, there is an emphasis on student-instructor and student-to-students interaction.
